Artist's Biography:
Joseph Swan ? - 1872. A landscape engraver and publisher who focused on Scottish
publications. He did much work after J. Fleming, in particular J.M. Leighton's
Select Views of Glasgow and its Environs (1828), Strath-clutha;
or Beauties of the Clyde (1839), Views of the River Clyde (1830),
History of the County of Fife (1840), Professor Wilson's Views of
the Lakes of Scotland (1836), and two books after Charles Mackie Historical
Description of Paisley (1835), and Historical Description of the Town
of Dundee (1836). Work of his also appeared in Hooker's Perthshire Illustrated
(1843), and Browne's History of the Highlands (c1845), and various
maps included in the Glasgow Post Office Directories between 1848-58.
